Boydens Supports Mental Health Book Initiative for Colchester Schools and Nurseries

by Philip Boyden

At Boydens, supporting our local community has always been part of who we are. That’s why we were delighted to get behind a fantastic initiative delivering mental health and wellbeing books to schools and nurseries across Colchester.

The campaign, led by Emma Barber of Little Boots Bookstore in Colchester, aimed to provide age-appropriate books focused on children’s mental health, emotional wellbeing and resilience. With the support of local businesses and individuals, the initiative successfully delivered over £600 worth of books to 18 schools and nurseries in the Colchester area.

Delivering Books to Local Schools

Our Managing Director, Philip Boyden, joined Emma to personally deliver book bundles to Chesterwell Nursery and both key stages at Langham Primary School.

This initiative strongly resonated with us as both a business and a family. Supporting children’s education and wellbeing in Colchester is something we care deeply about, and providing practical tools to help young people understand and manage their emotions is incredibly important.

This project was not simply about donating books. It was about helping equip teachers and carers with valuable resources to support mental health conversations in the classroom and nursery environment.

Why Supporting Children’s Wellbeing Matters

There is growing recognition of the importance of early mental health support within schools. By providing carefully selected, age-appropriate wellbeing books, this initiative helps children navigate complex feelings and build emotional confidence from an early age.

The response from local schools has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are proud to have played a part in making this possible.

Supporting the Colchester Community Since 1966

As a third-generation, family-run estate agency established in 1966, Boydens has always believed in supporting the communities we serve across Colchester, Essex and Suffolk.

While we are best known for residential sales, lettings, block management and holiday lets, community engagement remains central to our values. Initiatives that support families, education and wellbeing are particularly close to our hearts.

We would like to thank Emma and Little Boots Bookstore for leading such a meaningful campaign and for inviting us to be involved.
