West Essex area guide

About the area

Our West Essex branch is based in the commuter town of Kelvedon. This is a small, but exceptionally busy branch which covers a wide area and handles residential sales and lettings. In addition to Kelvedon, the branch has extensive coverage including (but not limited to), Braintree and the surrounding areas including Witham, Tiptree, Coggeshall, Great Notley, Feering, Messing and Great Braxted.

Kelvedon’s roots go back over 2000 years to before the Romans. The settlement of Canonium which was the third and final staging post on the Roman’s ride from Londinium (London) and the Roman capital of Camulodunum (Colchester), was at the crossing of the River Blackwater. The Roman Road, which ran roughly on the line of the modern High Street, was extremely busy leaving many artefacts to be found today.

The arrival of the railway transformed Kelvedon in the mid nineteenth century. Always an agricultural area, it was then possible to send goods and products to the fast-growing London market in a very short time, keeping goods at their best. With the A12 running parallel with the village, Kelvedon is a town well served in terms of its commuter links and Stansted airport is just over a 30-minute drive away.

Nowadays

If you want to travel further afield, Kelvedon is surrounded by many beautiful villages and the Essex and Suffolk countryside including Dedham Vale and Constable Country.

Property profile
